The Blue Mountain Chapter of Safari Club International is seeking qualified students and teaching professionals interested in an amazing outdoor learning experience

SCI’s Blue Mountain Chapter invites you to consider those young people and/or adult professionals in your life who would benefit from attending the American Wilderness Leadership School near Jackson Hole, Wyoming. For more than 20 years, the Blue Mountain Chapter has sponsored SCI’s legacy of supporting young people, educators, conservation leaders and others in related career fields for this exceptional personal enrichment opportunity through direct sponsorships.

The American Wilderness Leadership School (AWLS) experience presents a base knowledge of wildlife ecology and conservation together with land management issues. Training is provided through a combination of classroom and outdoor hands-on experiences.

Apply now for the 2012 Student Session scheduled for July 6-12, 2012 in Jackson, Wyoming. Students should be 16-18 years of age. Adult Educator Sessions are available summer 2012; check website for exact dates. You will find the 2012 Student Application & Educator Application by visiting the following site; www.safariclubfoundation.org Applications will be accepted until March 17th. Interviews will begin spring 2012.

The AWLS experience offers 6 adult sessions and 1 student session. The registration fee of $900 covers meals, lodging, and van transportation from the Jackson, WY Airport into camp. The Blue Mountain Chapter of SCI offers scholarship opportunities which covers this registration fee.  At present, travel costs to and from home are the successful applicant’s responsibility.

In week-long programs, adult educators are enriched by field activity including outdoor education lesson plans, plant identification, map and compass use, firearm safety, fly tying, survival training, and archery. They also meet with experts trained in wildlife management and conservation. AWLS programs are also available for graduate credit through Colorado State University.

Students attending the student session are also in for an experience of a lifetime. After the initial shock of no internet or cell service, students find themselves making new friends with bunkmates and sharing stories at the campfire. Experiences are similar to those of the educators, including survival training, firearm safety, archery, fly tying, an overnight backpacking trip and a whitewater rafting trip on the Snake River.

All of this set in the most beautiful scenery along the Granite Creek in Bridger-Teton National Forest.
